Portrait of Pierre Congiu

$ whoami

Hey, I'm Pierre.

Embedded Systems & DevOps Engineer

I'm an engineer working at the intersection of embedded systems, software engineering, and DevOps, for embedded teams. I enjoy understanding how things work from the lowest levels of a system all the way up to the infrastructure that builds, tests, and deploys it. Over the years, this has led me to work with embedded Linux, Linux kernel development, CI/CD, automated testing, hardware, and cloud and on-premise infrastructure. In practice that means I'm the one making sure every push gets built, flashed onto a real board and tested, ideally before anyone has to ask why the nightly is red.

I started out in automotive test benches, drifted into pipelines and infrastructure, and never really picked a side. Somewhere along the way people started calling me the “Workaround Engineer” because of my ability to find creative solutions. I've decided to take it as a compliment.

What I work on

$ git push && ci run

Pipelines for firmware

Moving teams off legacy Jenkins onto GitHub Actions, and running the self-hosted runner fleet behind it on Kubernetes and Nomad.

> flash --target mcu

Tests on real hardware

Labgrid, LAVA and HIL benches that flash the board, run the tests and report back. MCU or embedded Linux, same idea.

$ ./tools --serve

Tools for the team

Small web apps that turn "Let's test manually our code" into a button anyone can press.

Favourite wins so far:

Toolbox

CI/CD
GitHub Actions · Jenkins · GitLab CI · Docker · Kubernetes / K3s · Nomad · Ansible
Test
LAVA · Labgrid · Robot Framework · pytest · GoogleTest · HIL · Vector Suite
Embedded systems
Embedded Linux · bootloaders · hardware (MCU & MPU) · drivers · Yocto
Infrastructure
Networking · Self-hosting · Cloud · Virtualization · Homelabs
Languages
C / C++ · Python · Bash · Web (HTML / CSS, JavaScript)

Off the clock

Self-hosting things that probably didn't need self-hosting, poking at open-source projects, some sport, and a steady diet of science fiction. This blog is where the notes end up.
